Ser’i Otrobanda, on the West side of the Arubastraat, you’ll find a tranquil neighborhood where most of the residents have lived for decades. The area is very family friendly and safe, where kids can still play in the streets without much traffic. There is an active neighborhood committee that, with the help of several residents, provides food aid where needed and is actively improving and beautifying various parts of the area including residential plots.
In the past years, large businesses such as Willemstad Resort, HBN Tax and Law and NuCapital have established into the neighborhood. However, the community is lacking local business establishments catering to the community itself. The committie has therefore selected a few of the already existing local talents that have the potential to, with the help of micro financing, grow into a successful local business. This would fulfill the goal to help the local community to reach their full potential of economic independency and to improve the area by helping local entrepreneurs establish or improve their businesses.
Charite Leito and Franjeska Soto Beltran are two sisters that grew up in the Rembrandtstraat. Even though now this is nice and tranquil street, for decennia this wasn’t the case and poverty prevailed. Nonetheless, with the help of their close knit family and equipped with an abundance of determination, they are ready to pursue their new destination. Francesca works as a vivacious hairdresser and Charite has worked for years as a chef and is now pursuing her dreams of becoming a professional nail artist and has already obtained multiple degrees in painting nails.
